College Basketball: San Diego State wins 2016 Diamond Head Classic

 

The 2016 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic (an ESPN Event) was hosted by the University of Hawai’i, on December 22, 23 and 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center, Honolulu.  During the three days, eight men’s college basketball teams matched up in a round-robin format, with San Diego State University (SDSU) emerging as the champion of the 2016 Diamond Head Classic.

SDSU defeated San Francisco, 62-48, in the final game of the 12-game event. The placements for the other six teams follow:

  • 3rd  Illinois State
  • 4th Tulsa
  • 5th Utah
  • 6th Stephen F. Austin
  • 7th Hawaii
  • 8th Southern Mississippi

Zylan Cheatham had a double-double for San Diego State with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Charles Minlend came off the bench and scored 18 points for San Francisco.
