WNBA 2016: Diana Taurasi becomes third player to join 7,000 Club

Verizon Center, Washington, D.C., June 24 – With 1:11 left in the third quarter of the Phoenix Mercury’s 91-79 victory over the Washington Mystics, Diana Taurasi drilled a three-pointer and became the third player to score 7,000 points in the history of the WNBA.

Taurasi has now scored 7,006 points in her WNBA career in just 348 games. The other members of the club are Tina Thompson (7,488 points in 496 games) and Tamika Catchings (7,127 points in 437 games).  To put this remarkable feat in perspective, the next active player behind Taurasi is Cappie Pondexter with 6,058 points.

Surprisingly, there were no fanfare and game stoppage to recognize her achievement.  (Perhaps because it was an away game for Phoenix?)  Well, here is to you, Diana: Congratulations for your passion and your contribution to the game of basketball!!
