On paper, the title of the Beautyberry Fall 2015 womenswear collection – “Dance With You” – and its inspiration of the 1970’s and hippies could have pushed the clothing in an infinite number of directions.  However, the Chinese label’s designer, Wang Yutao, erred on the side of caution in most cases – even though his collection at Hong Kong Fashion Week began with a parade of leopard prints practically waving hello to Roberto Cavalli.  The key to most of Wang’s restraint, despite the prevalent use of orange, was elegance through cut and flow.

A long orange trench could have been too much on the eyes, but the use of black fur for the cuffs created a break in the silhouette at just the right time.  Similarly, a brown cape with black fur trim cleverly disguised the visual fatigue that its leopard print otherwise would have created in a brighter color (although the same could not be said for a business suit covered from head to toe in a louder version).  Hippie-inspired, perhaps, but a bit more refined; it’s what happens when that hippie decides to slow down her disco moves and check into a modern-day Madison Avenue boutique instead.
