Leather Japan Fall 2014: Art and fashion in New York

The worlds of visual art and Japanese fashion collided at the latest New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 collections.  Traditionally a one-hour presentation at Lincoln Center, the Leather Japan designer collective moved downtown to the Thomas Erben Gallery in Chelsea for a 10-day run.  The cold weather did little to deter the crowd from attending a two-and-a-half hour opening reception kicking off during Fashion Week on Feb. 11.

The exhibit format enabled a large roster to participate in this season’s events.  On display were the works of Akiyoshi Mishima, blackmeans (a four-person design collective), Carlos Rigau, Chitra Ganesh, CLASS, genten, Glen Fogel, ED ROBERT JUDSON, Hajime Sorayama, Hiroki Tsukuda, Hender Scheme, INDEN-YA (印傳屋), Inden Museum (印傳博物館), Kosuke Tsumura, Leather Industry Museum (皮革産業資料館), Mihara yasuhiro, m’s Braque, Needles, Sasquatchfabrix., Saya Kubota, Shuhei Yamada, Shin Murayama, South2 West8, URU, OHBA (大峽製鞄) and WhoWhat.
