Edition by Georges Chakra Fall 2009 Review – New York Fashion Week

An accomplished haute couture designer, Georges Chakra made his Fall 2009 ready-to-wear collection debut of “Edition by Georges Chakra” during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.

Born and raised in Lebanon, Georges Chakra earned his fashion design degree from the Canadian Fashion Academy and has never looked back. Now based in Lebanon and France, Chakra shows his haute couture line at Paris Fashion Week twice a year. Having dressed for the red carpet the likes of Queen Latifah, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey and Beyonce, just to name a few, Chakra already has an impressive Hollywood celebrity following.

In his RTW Edition Fall 2009 collection, Chakra used stiff fabrics like taffeta, organza, and lame to create exaggerated volume and glossy, royal silhouettes. Chakra kept colors on the cool side, embracing black, charcoal and silver, while allowing an occasional splash of fuchsia, burgundy and navy blue. Laser cut detailing, multi-colored jewels, sequins, and Swarovski crystals embellished the looks of dresses, while heavy use of pleating and glossy fabrics put this ready-to-wear collection on a whole new level of grandeur, glamour and drama.
