G-Star Raw Spring 2008 – New York Fashion Week Review

“Just the Product” may be the motto of “G-Star Raw” – G-Star’s denim line – but the label broke with that philosophy at its presentation on Sept. 6 at Gotham Hall.

Deviating from the traditional runway format, this was truly a show in every sense of the word. Some models strutted up and down the steps of a multi-level stage, while others posed along a moving runway. The lighting was boldly theatrical, making extensive use of projected shadow-play. The impressive production design of this show will certainly burnish G-Star Raw’s reputation as a cutting-edge brand.

As for the clothes, they seemed to fit well but were rather uniform-like, making it hard to distinguish one from the other unless you were very close to the action. This uniformity definitely fit with the show’s futuristic theme, but it was too easy to forget about the clothes themselves in the midst of all the theatrics.
