FASHION Reviews: ARISE: African Fashion Collective: The festive 20-minute show featured four young African fashion designers. | Video Chado Ralph Rucci: Attention to detail is why Rucci stands a cut above his contemporaries with his steadfast devotion to couture, while creating looks that make many women believe that they, too, can wear and own these works of art. | Video Christian Siriano: Siriano unveiled a women’s Spring 2010 collection inspired by the Mediterranean, with large, lush prints depicting blue oceans and orange volcanoes. | Video Edition by Georges Chakra: Chakra offered a very striking contrast to his Fall 2009 collection, nixing stiff fabrics for airy short dresses and evening gowns with unexpected twists. | Video Max Azria: Show guest and actor Mickey Rourke reportedly said of the eponymous label’s latest neutral-colored offerings that they suited all types of women. We beg to differ, Mr. Rourke. | Video Rebecca Taylor: The designer's women’s collection came across as repetitive and familiar – vintage Taylor, perhaps, but a bit overdone with a spring garden theme. | Video Thuy: Thuy Diep retained much of the same aesthetic and style of her looks from last season, yet pushed the envelope a bit more with its rawer and more daring take. Article: The Scene at New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: The suites, the stars and the steam (that last one is not what you think). Photos: Dennis Basso FILM SPORTS Our Legg Mason Tennis Classic semifinal Twitter feed, unabridged: Meniscus used Twitter for live updates during the singles semifinals. Of course, Twitter has that pesky character count limit. Therefore, we relive these live Twitter updates, in full expanded detail. Legg Mason Tennis Classic finals: More unabridged tweets: Our semifinal Twitter experience was enjoyable enough that similar commentary was provided during the singles championship. Second seed and defending champion Juan Martin Del Potro narrowly knocked off top seed Andy Roddick in a third-set tiebreaker. Scene at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic: Whacked stats, dumb questions and more: The tournament was upgraded this year as part of the Olympus US Open Series. That said, we noticed a few oddities beneath the slick façade in the forms of words and numbers. FILM Reviews: "Fruit Fly": Director H.P. Mendoza's desire to fit as many songs in the film/musical led him to sacrifice elements that would have gripped his audience and made them care about the potentially interesting characters. "Karma Calling": The only feature to receive two screenings at this year’s Festival is an uplifting comedy about the struggling Raj family, a group of five Indian-Americans who live in northern New Jersey. Also: some opinions on the 32nd annual edition of the Festival. "Tibet in Song": Despite my reservations, "Tibet in Song" is a valuable film that not only gives viewers a peek into a musical tradition that is not well-known in the United States, but can also spark important conversations on a wide variety of political and cultural topics. Also, a big congratulations to Associate Editor Wade-Hahn Chan, whose 72 Hour Film Shootout team placed in the Top 10 in the competition and was nominated for "Most Original Use of Theme." See if you can spot him in the film "Time After Time" below, which premiered at the Fest!
