MUSIC TECHNOLOGY, FOOD, MUSIC & OTHER RANDOM STUFF About 10,000 geeks descended upon Austin, Texas, to Tweetup and Meetup over all things Web 2.0, gaming and tech. Here is some of the chaos that ensued. Articles: Screenburn at SXSW Game Competition awards fresh ideas: The inaugural competition was created to help aspiring game makers outline their dream video games. South by Southwest Interactive: The parties, the lounges: While social media may have been a huge theme this year, the jam-packed conference rooms would prove, inevitably, one thing as far as free time was concerned: Despite the Tweets, Meetups and Mashups, nothing beats socializing in person. SXSWXF (South by Southwest by Food): A Glutton’s Guide to Austin: When Texas mainstays like BBQ, hamburgers and Tex-Mex are done this well (and this cheaply), there’s no reason to heavily improvise. Take Shelter! It's Nuclear Tacos at SXSW: I knew very little about the event other than that it involved free tacos. Unfortunately, I didn't really consider the "nuclear" end of that free taco bargain. Videos: Bacon Flavored Interactive After Party: Bacon - and the Kansas City-based hip-hop trio Bacon Shoe - ruled at this !!official!! fundraiser. If you are taken aback by offensive lyrics and grilled meat, beware! Nuclear Taco Night: Three brave souls duke it out for the title of 2009 Nuclear Taco Eating Champion...or maybe just for Worst Case of Interactive Indigestion. Various SXSW Interactive '09 parties: Highlights from the SXSW Interactive Opening Party, the Tocquigny Mixer and Imaginations at the Mohawk. Marching bands, rock bands and live digital art. FASHION Reviews: Academy of Art University: While this show usually is not as star-studded and high-profile as other shows, the talent on display rivals - and often outshines - those of more established names. | Video Andy & Debb: The first three-quarters of their women’s collection featured a number of basics that unfortunately lacked a “wow” factor. The designs then kicked up several notches in the last quarter of the show. Barbie Runway Show: It is a rare treat when the top fashion and accessory designers in the world have the opportunity to showcase their signature styles in an extravaganza celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Barbie doll. | Video BCBG Max Azria: The resulting collection was mixed, teetering between demure and drab, dazzling and dull. | Video Carlos Miele: With a deep familiarity of how color and texture play in fashion design, Miele and his subtle crush on asymmetrics shows through his every collection regardless of season. Charlotte Ronson: There was a definite theme: a rather severe look dominated by black leather, chains and spiked heels – a sort of combination military/biker/dominatrix motif which broke sharply from her previous collections. | Video Chocheng: The show started off well, opening with a variety of brightly colored riding jackets with equally eye-catching trimming. Then the gowns arrived and things took a turn for the worse. | Video Duckie Brown: The label's Fall/Winter 2009 collection looked like a lineup of young boys getting ready for their first snow of the winter. Unfortunately, the designers went too far with this theme. | Video Edition by Georges Chakra: Heavy use of pleating and glossy fabrics put this ready-to-wear collection on a whole new level of grandeur, glamour and drama. e.y. wada: Despite these bold ideas, the design duo decided to take the cuts and prints of the collection into subtler territory. The unfortunate end result was that it felt muted and meek. | Video Monarchy Collection: Thankfully, Monarchy's trademark rock star nonsense didn’t make it to the East Coast runways; in its stead was a men's and women's collection of slick coats, jackets, suits and dresses. | Video Rad Hourani: Hourani's lack of compromise is laudable—if risky—in a time when economic struggles are causing retailers to favor the commercially friendly rather than the artistic. | Video Thuy: Thuy's Fall 2009 collection proved an eclectic and intriguing collision of styles, materials, and colors. | Video Tony Cohen: The Dutch designer put together a collection that most women dream about: easy-to-wear pieces that exude loads of style. William Rast: While this fall collection was a definite step up from the previous Spring 2009 collection, many looks felt over-embellished and over-layered. | Video Article: Scene at the Tents: The Hilton sisters hit Justin Timberlake's show, Khloe Kardashian and Kiefer Sutherland get cornered, Spanx and the best/worst sponsor booths at Bryant Park. Photos: Before and after: Models at the tibi show: For fun, our photographer Kwai Chan decided to match up models' looks with their casual selves just a couple of hours prior to the show. | Video The Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection 2009: The Fall 2009 collections began with a show promoting The Heart Truth, a campaign promoting heart disease awareness. As in years past, this season included notable actresses, athletes and personalities. Videos: Akiko Ogawa FOOD A sweet solution for Valentine's Day: I set out to find unusual chocolates at the Show that one might consider giving as a gift for Valentine’s Day. Superheroes melt the Chocolate Show New York runway: Halloween came a little bit late for those attending the opening night fashion show gala at the 11th Annual Chocolate Show New York last November, but it was worth the wait for a high-octane event featuring a “superheroes” theme. | Video SPORTS! CUTE ANIMALS!!!! Westminster begins with young and old, primped and pooped: The 133rd Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show began at Madison Square Garden on Monday, Feb. 9. Westminster’s Class of 2008: Uno, the retirees and the returnees: Who from last year’s Best in Show finals is hoping to join James (2007) and Uno (2008) on the champions’ list, and who is enjoying their post-dog show life?
