Rosa Chá Review – New York Fashion Week Spring 2009

Like fellow swimsuit company Gottex, which caters to women who would rather sunbathe in the French Riviera instead of dipping so much as a toe into the water, Rosa Chá has a very specific target audience: the Brazilian beach babe.

The label’s designer, Amir Slama, has proven that swimwear and high fashion can go hand-in-hand. His collection, after all, was inspired by Brazilian abstract artist Gonçalo Ivo, and the trademark colorful geometric shapes of Ivo’s works translated nicely into Slama’s 46 looks. Swimsuits and mini-dresses were exquisitely accessorized with belts, beads embroidered into the fabric and dazzling Swarovski crystals. One highlight included a willowy one-piece kaftan swimsuit with a printed bikini top, modeled by Chanel Iman, which resembled a flowing tie-dyed piece with shadows from trees juxtaposed with the color of the ocean.
