"Hunger": Sound and image are given primacy in Steve McQueen’s experimental, non-narrative film, which examines the final days of IRA activist and political prisoner Bobby Sands as he slowly perished from a 66-day hunger strike in 1981. "Tokyo Sonata": Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s latest film is a horror film of sorts. Only this time, instead of a crawling, long-haired female ghost, the monster is the sinking Japanese economy. "24 City": Jia Zhang-ke’s extraordinary documentary/fiction hybrid focuses on a former military munitions plant in Chengdu, China, which is about to be torn down to make way for an ultramodern housing complex known as “24 City.” FASHION Articles: Seeing stars at the Tents...and beyond: The Meniscus Fashion Week quartet was seeing stars, literally and figuratively, after eight action-packed days at New York Fashion Week. OmniaLuo: Designer Zheng Luo's spring fashion translated into romantic sophistication and artful play of colors and textures. | Video Ports 1961: Knee-length dresses and skirts were the forte in a collection that, unfortunately, sputtered near the end. Reem Acra: Acra really outdid herself for Spring 2009: all of the bright colors were eye-popping, with no solid black color in sight. | Video Rosa Chá: The label’s designer, Amir Slama, has proven that swimwear and high fashion can go hand-in-hand. Sergio Davila: In his New York Fashion Week debut, the Peru native showcased suave sportswear for men and glamorous knitwear for women. Terexov: In Alexandr Terekhov's fifth New York season under his label Terexov, the variety has emerged in his designs, but the clothes themselves have fallen off the rail. | Video Tracy Reese: Reese continued her theme of nature from last season, but opted for a more restrained, elegant approach. | Video FASHION SPORTS As Roddick's star falls, Del Potro's rises: Juan Martin Del Potro, 19, of Argentina captured the title for his fourth title of the year. Favorite Andy Roddick, who skipped Beijing, bowed out in the quarters. Scene at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic: Shots from the tournament, including a surprise visit from a former Miss Universe. SPORTS Beijing cheer permeates Olympic atmosphere: From a hospitality standpoint, the Olympics were a huge winner, all the more remarkable considering that the rushed tourism push had been previously unchartered territory in China. Cartan Tours turns Olympic dream into nightmare for travelers: The Olympic tour agent boasts “excellence in travel.” But numerous mistakes and omissions by the company left travelers gypped, stranded and at serious risk in Beijing. Hotel Review - Leisure City International Hotel: As it stands now, this Beijing hotel appears to be a property for domestic and Asian citizens who want to take advantage of the nearby hot springs. But for others, it’s pretty safe to say that accommodations in the heart of town would be a much better choice.
