20, 2007: FILM "City of Violence": If Ryu Seung-wan’s previous film “Crying Fist” was his orchestral piece, then “City of Violence’ is his garage band record: fast, loud, and somewhat ragged, but containing very entertaining and catchy riffs. "Dog Bite Dog": Starring Edison Chen and Sam Lee, “Dog Bite Dog” paints a hellish, Hobbesian world where violence, brutality, and selfishness comprise the coin of the realm. "Getting Home": Mainland Chinese comedian Zhao Benshan’s beautiful comic performance grounds the film as he – and we – travel through the Chinese countryside, encountering all manner of humanity and witnessing the changes to the landscape. "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK": While the film is not quite at the level of Park Chan-wook's previous films, it beautifully reflects the unhinged nature of the inhabitants of the mental asylum where practically the entire film is set. "The Show Must Go On": Han Jae-rim’s new film is a wry and ultimately poignant take on the gangster-film genre. FASHION
