Five Miss Talent Finalists Chosen in the 2006 Miss New York Chinese Pageant

Five contestants have a shot at the Miss Talent title at the 2006 Miss New York Chinese Beauty Pageant. The winner will be announced at the pageant on Aug. 13 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Conn.

The five Miss Talent contenders are Ashley Zhu (accordion), Sirena Wang (piano and vocal), Jane Teng (piano and vocal), XiXi Liu (ballet) and Susan Liu (dance). Two other contestants, Adeline Chui (flamenco dance) and Yin Zhang (vocal), rounded out the top 7 in a very busy evening for the 14 Miss New York Chinese finalists.

After a round of self-introductions, the 14 finalists performed their respective talents before a panel of five judges and a packed banquet room at the East Manor Restaurant. The top 7 then advanced to a second round, where each contestant opened a sealed envelope and had two minutes to act out an improvisation scene with other actors onstage based on the scenario written on her sheet. Another round of scoring ensued to determine the five contestants who made the cut.

The Miss Talent award is one of a number of titles that will be handed out at the pageant. For the first time, the pageant will hand out top 5 placements – as opposed to the traditional top 3 in the past – and will also award a Miss Photogenic, Miss Popularity, Farah Miss Perfect Figure and Miss Friendship.
