Hundreds of supermodel hopefuls wishing to join the ranks of Adrienne, Yoanna, Eva, Naima and Nicole -- the first five winners of UPN's wildly successful "America's Next Top Model" reality show -- waited in line with friends, boyfriends and family members on Sat., Jan. 21, 2006, in New York City. The line leading up to the Park Central Hotel included a wide range of women, some of whom had never modeled in their lives, while others clutched thick portfolios. It's a testament to the fact that despite the crazy house antics, the scathing criticism from Tyra Banks and her panel of judges, and the outrageous shoots in various natural and manufactured climates, the opportunity to strut the international runway is too enticing to pass up.

Meniscus spoke to four young women in that line, all of whom had different reasons for pursuing the identical dream. If they don't make it through Tyra's show, perhaps you will still recognize them someday as household names. Meet Atash, Marie, Kristin and Jasmine:
