Rocha Review – London Fashion Week Spring 2010
It’s the 25th anniversary for London Fashion Week, and it’s been the same amount of time – as far as his presence at the event goes – for Hong Kong-raised, London-trained and Dublin-based designer John Rocha, who unveiled his Spring/Summer 2010 men’s and women’s collections on Sept. 19. Rocha relied on flower-like petals and ruffles many times in the latter, with his strongest designs for women being those in cream and white. (The ruffles, unfortunately, overpowered the clothes when other colors were used.) Following a rather repetitive series of layered dresses, Rocha concluded with some beautiful stiff bird’s nest tank tops and a final look finale with a dress using the same material in black. The men’s collection was less compelling; while the pre-wrinkled trench coats and blazers were satisfactory, other looks such as cut-off pants, sequined vests and a white mesh shirt complete with a sequined heart begged for more masculinity. The atmosphere of the show took on an eerily creepy, almost sullen mood,
despite all the surrounding pastels. But Mulberry
presented versatile separates, fashionable and fun for women – and
even a couple of dogs. |
