WTT 2017: Capacity crowd supports star-studded Kastles led by Venus, Querrey

July 25, 2017, Kastles Stadium at the Smith Center, George Washington University, Washington, D.C. – For even the casual World TeamTennis fan in the Nation’s Capital, this was the one match to attend.  Indeed, where else could one be able to watch players such as Venus Williams, finalist at two Grand Slams this year (the Australian Open and Wimbledon), 2017 Wimbledon semifinalist Sam Querrey, and Bruno Soares, holder of two 2016 men’s doubles major titles at the Australian and U.S. Opens (with Jamie Murray) in one evening?

The full capacity crowd of over 3,000 was treated with Venus Williams playing three sets (Mixed Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Women’s Singles), Querrey contesting two (Men’s Doubles and Men’s Singles), and Soares also participating in two (Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles).  Despite the star power, the Kastles never led in the entire match.  Even though they eventually lost to the Springfield Lasers in an Extended Play, 23-21, the festive evening lingered on well after the match was over.
