Want to hibernate all winter in your very own personal cocoon?
Laurence & Chico introduced a puffy New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2017 collection fit for safely rolling around and catching Zzzs in. Comprising theatrical, exaggerated shapes, the collection was reminiscent of Comme des Garçons on acid.
Indeed, the design duo’s own statement on this collection wasn’t too far off. Laurence Li and Chico Wang concocted a series of dream creatures “fuel[ed] by farting” – yes, farting – that influenced the prints of cartoon animals hanging out amongst clouds.
One can wear any of these cushioned pieces and feel insulated, safe and sound in a psychedelic shell of happiness armed against any wintry elements. Variations of the oversized coats appeared in black and yellow, layered in multiple ways, and styled with quirky hair pieces and matching slides.
Perhaps to appeal to those less likely to wear a coat four times their size, some more easily digestible pieces appeared, including a turquoise, dotted skirt suit accented with pearls, and a lip-print magenta and orange shirt dress paired with an oversized pearl necklace. Segueing back to fantasy, the same lip print appeared in an exaggerated ruffle mutton sleeve, corseted jacket with an open collar. A men’s jacket featured wild rainbow-colored character prints – and ruffled shoulder pads and pockets – and an equally psychedelic women’s pajama jacket in a floral pattern and ruffle-accented sleeves was paired with culottes.
