Jonathan Simkhai Spring 2015: Just feminine enough

Jonathan Simkhai’s tightly-edited Spring 2015 collection was a subversive take on femininity with a dash of signature sportiness. What may appear to be lace on a body-conscious white long-sleeved dress with cutout panelling, on closer inspection turns out to be a jagged brocade fractal design appliquéd on mesh (a technique used throughout the collection), covering all the right places.

This just-feminine-enough feel was also found in an outfit consisting of a white high-waisted brocade appliqué and mesh pencil skirt worn with a cropped white camisole under a pale pinkish nude cropped mesh bomber jacket. The brocade literally provided the sharp edges necessary to prevent these looks from becoming too sweet and predictable.

Also noteworthy is Simkhai’s continuance of this geometric sharp-edged pattern as both a black and white print on a knit crop top and pencil skirt set, and as black leather appliqués on a black mesh long-sleeved dress, cohesively tying together the collection.
