WNBA 2014: San Antonio Stars 73, Washington Mystics 65

June 29, 2014, Verizon Center, Washington, D.C. – In one single word, Washington head coach Mike Thibault described the Mystics’ (7-10) loss to the San Antonio Stars (8-8) as “aggravating.”

The Mystics fell behind in the first quarter, 18-27, with a porous defense, allowing Stars guard Becky Hammon and forward Kayla McBride to score 16 points with four 3-pointers.

Nevertheless, the Mystics managed to battle back with a solid third quarter and actually was behind by one point with 3:19 to go. For some inexplicable reason, the entire team became anxious and played with a nervous urgency. In the final six offensive possessions, they attempted three 3-pointers and two jump shots, but committed one turnover and came away with no points.
