Alexandre Plokhov Fall 2012 – New York Fashion Week Review

Alexandre Plokhov’s latest Fall/Winter collection was inspired by Andrew Eldritch, founder of genre-defying goth band Sisters of Mercy.  Eldritch’s sinewy, commanding stage presence could be felt in the outfits’ severe minimalism.  Plokhov’s signature touches – asymmetry and belts – persisted throughout, alongside suiting that centered on sharply-cut spencer jackets and androgynous pieces like long leather gloves, dress-like gilets and voluminous pants.  Angora sweaters and fur broke the silhouettes of the tailored fits.  Chunky white bronze bracelets and necklaces provided powerful highlights over predominantly gray and black hues.  The collection was not a major departure of style, but a strong refinement of Plokhov’s central aesthetic.
