Ninh Fall 2011 – New York Fashion Week

Finding good menswear is a difficult task these days. With offerings on opposite sides of the spectrum from the jarringly basic (solid shirts, plaid shirts, striped shirts) to the ridiculously absurd (floor-length skirt suits, translucent yarned sweaters), the choices are few and grim. So when a new talent like Ninh Nguyen comes along, it is definitely worth paying attention.

Born in Paris and based in New York, the FIT-educated Nguyen launched his Autumn/Winter 2011 collection at a presentation away from the Lincoln Center tents and deep into the heart of the West Village. Sixteen models donned a carefully crafted and constructed 22 pieces, which included military-style biker coats and blazers. Where Nguyen excels with his eponymous line is his placement of surprising details, such as zipper accents on turned out collars, exaggerated lapels and large pockets dominating dress shirts.
