Christian Siriano Spring 2010 Review – New York Fashion Week

Say what you will about the self-described “fierce” attitude of “Project Runway” wunderkind and Victoria Beckham favorite Christian Siriano – the 23-year-old Maryland native is here to stay in the fashion industry. With proud reality show colleagues Nina Garcia, Tim Gunn and Jack Mackenroth looking on, Siriano unveiled a women’s Spring 2010 collection inspired by the Mediterranean, with large, lush prints depicting blue oceans and orange volcanoes. A one-shoulder bubble gown with the former print seemed to float down the runway, while the diagonal draping in a strapless satin-faced chiffon gown emphasized the boldness of the accompanying volcanic print. (Less successful was an attempt at a silk knit body suit, the only hiccup in the collection.)

In other pieces, Siriano favored classic colors and cuts compared to his more daring “Project Runway” fare, using metallic silvers, creams and beiges – none of it sacrificing in style, and all of it punctuated by handbags and teetering shoes that will be unveiled in the spring as part of his third Christian Siriano for Payless collection.
