Gottex – New York Fashion Week Spring 2007 Review

Bryant ParkGottex prides itself on being a swimwear haute couture line, and the company’s Spring 2007 runway show more than lived up to that lofty tag. A whopping 73 looks of various designs and cuts simultaneously provided a visual world tour and a tantalizing parade of innovative swimsuits for the 21st century.

Then again, Gottex has always been ahead of its time. The Israeli company is celebrating its 50th anniversary of swimwear intended not necessarily for the water, but “lounging in the sun,” according to Gottex designer Gideon Oberson. Gottex has thrown private fashion shows for celebrities and, in 2004, unveiled a swimsuit with diamonds worth $30 million.

Oberson’s inspiration for the Spring 2007 collection was “the two sides of a woman – her independent and assertive side, and her romantic, feminine side.” Wrap skirts, sheer fabric, bandeau bikinis, and even men’s collars and ties comprised just several interesting elements of a diverse and colorful show that built right up to the finish line.
